Acworth Sets First Menorah Lighting

STAFF REPORT //

Here’s a first. There are well over 100,000 Jews in metro Atlanta and now a few more will be able to take part in a Chanukah happening in their own community.

The city of Acworth is reaching out to the Jewish community this holiday season with plans on holding its first ever Menorah Lighting ceremony.

The event is set for Thursday, Dec. 13, at 6 p.m. at the corner of Cowan Road and Main Street in downtown Acworth.

Rabbi Zalman Charytan of the Chabad Jewish Center will be in charge of the lighting. Acworth Mayor Tommy Allegood and Georgia Attorney General Sam Olens are among the dignitaries who will be in attendance.

Chanukah, the eight day Festival of Lights, began last Saturday at sunset.
