Obituary: Norman Weinstein

The World War II veteran, businessman and native of Wilmington, N.C., died March 9.

Norman Weinstein, age 93, passed away Thursday, March 9, 2017.

He was born Jan. 10, 1924, in Wilmington, N.C. He was predeceased by his wife, Marjory; a son, Charles; a daughter-in-law, Barbara Weinstein; and sisters Rhea Slutsky and Joan Axelrod.

Norman spent his early years in Philadelphia and Raleigh, N.C. In 1943, during World War II, he left college and enlisted in the United States Army. He was stationed in England, where he met the love of his life, Marjory Dawson. When the war ended, they married in Driffield, England, on Jan. 19, 1946. After living in North Carolina, where both of their sons were born, they moved to Richmond, Va., and raised their family. Norman’s career was as an executive in the swimming pool business. In the 1990s, with the arrival of grandchildren, they moved to Atlanta. Other than an extended visit to England for six years, they spent their remaining years in Atlanta. They loved to travel and enjoyed many wonderful trips all over the world.

Norman lost his beloved wife, Marjory, in 2011 after 65 years together. Mr. Weinstein is survived by his son Mark Weinstein (Sheryl Adair); grandson Eric Weinstein; granddaughter Meredith Foster (Kevin), Volcano, Hawaii; great-grandchildren Briella and Josiah Foster; sister Betty Klein, Pembroke Pines, Fla.; daughter-in-law Susan Parr, Pender Island, British Columbia, Canada; and nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society or to a charitable organization of your choice. Funeral services were held Sunday, March 12.
