The Fairy Tale Courtroom, a comedy that follows the trials and tribulations of the “big bad wolf” and “the witch” will be presented at Greenfield Hebrew Academy on December 16.

The play, exciting and funny, also includes characters from several other fairy tales – Little Red Riding Hood, The Wizard of Oz, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. And, interestingly, the process of pulling this effort together has been special and unique.

All the actors in “Fairy Tale Courtroom” are also involved in other aspects of the play’s production, like set construction, props, costumes or lighting. Students have been putting in lots of time and effort to make the play a huge success.

Director Taryn Bryant, recently hired as a drama teacher at GHA, says she’s thrilled with all the young actors.

“I love to hear and see all the ideas the kids come up with,” she says, “while on stage to make their characters come alive.”

Jillian Gerson is playing the part of “Pig No. 3” in one part of the play and “The Witch” in another segment. Jillian really likes working with Ms. Bryant and thinks being in the play “is so much fun.”

Jaren Linowes will be playing the parts of “Scarecrow,” “Badger” and a short order chef.

“It’s the first year I’ve been in the play,” he says, “and I can’t wait to be in more productions.”

I’ll be playing the characters of the “Defense Attorney” for the witch as well as the “Grandmother” and have loved every minute of preparation. The main comment from all the kids in the play is, “It’s been so much fun!”

Two GHA staff members will have parts in the play.

Carla Nixon, who plays a courthouse clerk, has been called the funniest character in the whole production. The other staff member, Steve Zisser, is perfect in his role as a judge.

So, here’s your chance to find out if the wolf will finally be punished for his evil crimes and if I, as the defense attorney, can save the witch.
