Davis Vaccinates Students
Within days of Pfizer vaccine being recommended for children ages 12 and up, the school vaccinated its qualifying students.
Within three days of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommending the Pfizer vaccine for children ages 12 and older, The Davis Academy hosted an on-site clinic providing immunizations for its students and their families at the middle school campus May 14.
“This was a truly special moment for many of the Davis Academy families and students as the school was able to help provide a great sense of hope and relief going into summer, especially knowing how many head to overnight camp, and for the next school year,” the school reported in a press release.
“The vaccination rollout for younger children brings hope to the students, families and the teachers that the next school year will return to a ‘more normal’ school life.
Davis parent Marissa Shedrow said of the rollout, “We were thrilled when Davis notified us over a week ago that they would be offering eligible students the COVID vaccine on campus as soon as it was approved to do so. Today, our sixth-grade son is now one step closer to being able to do all the things he has missed out on in the past year.”
Head of school Amy Shafron thanked Davis parent Dr. Dawn Sasine and Tuxedo Pharmacy for making the rollout possible. “This is a mitzvah and truly gratifying after a year of such uncertainty. It’s such a meaningful step for the benefit of our kids, their parents and ultimately our teachers as well.”
