The mother of 14-year-old Alyssa Alhadeff, one of the five Jewish victims among the 17 people slain at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Fla., on Wednesday, unleashed her grief toward President Donald Trump during an appearance on CNN on Thursday afternoon.

“A gunman, a crazy person, just walked right into the school, knocked down the window of my child’s door and starts shooting, shooting her, and killing her,” Lori Alhadeff said. “President Trump, you’re saying what can you do. You can stop the guns from getting into these children’s hands. Put metal detectors at every entrance to the schools. What can you do? You can do a lot.”

Later Thursday, Camp Coleman held a Facebook Live healing service in memory of Alyssa, who attended the camp in Cleveland. The video, featuring camp Director Bobby Harris with Temple Sinai Rabbi Brad Levenberg and Bunzl Family Cantorial Director Beth Schafer and broadcast from Sinai, has received more than 14,000 views.

“We as a Camp Coleman community come together tonight with humble and broken hearts,” Harris said. “We’ve lost one of our own and know that so many of our own campers, staff and families have been broken and impacted as well.”

Temple Kol Emeth, at 6 p.m., and Temple Sinai, at 8 p.m., plan memorial services Friday. Like Camp Coleman, both are part of the Reform movement and have members who attended with Alyssa.
