Hunger in the United States is an issue that affects millions of Americans, including some who are middle class, or who are in households where all adults are in work. Research from the United States Department of Agriculture found that 14.9% of American households were food insecure during 2011, with 5.7% suffering from very low food security. These are often hard-working adults, children and seniors who simply cannot always make ends meet and may be forced to go without food.
