Obituary: Phyllis Lazarus, 66

Phyllis Lazarus, 66

Phyllis Lazarus, age 66, of Atlanta died on August 23, 2015.  She is survived by her husband of 41 years, Wayne Lazarus; children, Jeremy Lazarus, Zach and Lisa Lazarus, and Joanna Lazarus and Josh Rothstein, all of Atlanta; siblings, Meryl and Richard Levitt, Atlanta, Beth and Don Wayne, Cincinnati, OH, and Ellen and Michael Levitt, Nashville, TN; grandchildren, Jordan, Parker, and Pace Lazarus; and mother-in-law, Ruth Arnovitz.  She was preceded in death by her parents, Meyer and Miriam Goldstein.  Phyllis was born and raised in Louisville, KY.  She taught at The Epstein School for many years and worked for the William Breman Heritage Museum for 10 years.  She was active with the 1996 Olympics including running with the Olympic Torch in Gainesville, GA.  She volunteered for several communal organizations including co-chair for the Jewish Film Festival film section committee, chaired missions to Israel for the Atlanta Jewish Federation, and she was active in AIPAC.  In addition, Phyllis and Wayne were founding members of Congregation B’nai Torah and they were active with the Atlanta Literary Society Book Club.  Special acknowledgment to the loving care from Weinstein Hospice, and her caregivers Keisha Gaffney and Gale Walker.  Sign on-line guestbook: www.edressler.com.  Graveside services will be held 10:30 AM today, August 25 at Arlington Memorial Park with Rabbi Joshua Heller officiating.  In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Congregation B’nai Torah, 700 Mount Vernon Hwy, Sandy Springs, GA 30328 and Weinstein Hospice, 3150 Howell Mill Rd NW, Atlanta, GA 30327.  Arrangements by Dressler’s Jewish Funeral Care, 770-451-4999.
