Obituary: Helen Sharfstein, 85

Helen Sharfstein, 85, of Atlanta passed away peacefully Thursday, April 7, 2016, after a long struggle with Alzheimer’s disease.

Born Helen Hobel on Feb. 28, 1931, in Astoria, Queens, N.Y., she and her husband lived most of their lives on Staten Island, N.Y., before moving to Florida and then Atlanta. Helen was devoted to her family and was a lifelong member of Hadassah, the Women’s Zionist Organization of America. She attended Hunter College and worked as a bookkeeper for Harry Winston Jewelers, Sancor Photo Lab and Avins Industrial.

Proceeded in death by a daughter, Elaine Meadows, she is survived by her husband, Laurence; her son, Howard; a daughter-in-law, Mary; and four grandchildren.
